Many people ask me “How does it feel to be in Slovenia? Do you like here? Do you have friends that they are local? Do you feel that you are included into the local environment?” Of course, I do love Slovenia and I’m really happy that I had an opportunity to come here! But sometimes I feel, that I don’t really have anything to do here. I have friends, that they are local, but everyone has their own things to do, school, work etc., so not all the time I can hang out with them, or go somewhere. But I’m not the only one, who feels the same thing. At the moment in Slovenia there is many volunteers from different countries that want to be included into the local community, but as we know, not all of them has this opportunity.
When I have figured out that this situation is really happening I felt bad not only for myself, but also for others. For a long time I was thinking what I could do to change it, and one evening the idea just jumped in to my mind.
By organizing event “Meet the locals” I want to show people, that we (volunteers) are interested into meeting new people, that could show us Slovenia, that could somehow include us into the local community. We don’t want to feel like we are pushed aside from everything. Also, we are all different and we came from different countries. We want to share our experience, talk about our culture, show people that we are all different but we ALL HAVE THINGS IN COMMON. I hope, that we all will have a good time and the moment, that all of us will remember for a long time.
