Kmalu preživeli ugotovijo, da to ni navaden otok, saj jih začnejo preganjati čudne dimne pošasti in polarni medvedi (ja, polarni medvedi).
Šest sezon zabave in globokih razodetij.
Hvala vam,

Lost in quarantine
As the global threat from COVID-19 pandemic is closing to an end, people are slowly and cautiously returning to their past lives. Different countries all around the world are making plans to reopen their borders, and we are left with a strange feeling of 2 months of life in quarantine. That time has been spent usefully for most of us, for the others it was two months of laziness and weight gain. Some of us have read books that we always wanted to read but couldn’t find the time, some of us learned to cook new meals, some of us graduated online and some, like me, rewatched Lost.
Lost is a popular TV series that aired from 2004-2010. It had millions of fans all around the globe and was one of the most successful shows in modern television history. The plot revolves around a group of survivors of Oceanic flight 815 from Sydney to Los Angeles. Their airplane crashes on an island somewhere in South Pacific. Soon survivors find out that this is no ordinary island as strange smoke monsters and polar bears (yeah, polar bears) start chasing them. Upon realization that help is not coming, the group is forced to abandon their hopes of ever being rescued and start preparing for life on the mysterious island. Everything else after that is six seasons of action, drama, clash, romance, and heartbreak.
When Lost aired for the first time I had eleven years. To me, the show was something amazing and I remember watching the first season halfway. The early 2000s were a time when there was no Netflix and internet to most inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina was too expensive. As years passed and new shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones started appearing, TV series Lost became something like an afterthought, until pandemic hit. Quarantine “restriction on the movement of people and goods which is intended to prevent the spread of disease” is the perfect time for watching old shows that talk about people being isolated on remote islands.
My favorite character was John Locke portrayed by amazing Terry O’Quinn. Locke is an ambiguous figure. He’s a self-confident experienced hunter, tough, fearless, and brave, but confusion starts when we find out about Lock’s past through many of the series flashbacks. In his past life, Locke was an insecure figure, who got fooled to donate one of his kidneys to a conman who presented himself as his sick father. Then we found out that Locke is paraplegic. It is fascinating to follow this profound character shift. Of course Lost is fiction, no one who is paraplegic cannot just miraculously stand up and walk again, but I’m left with a question: Do we have in our lives those moments that change us from our root?
I think that most people would say: Yes, we do! It usually comes after some trauma, bad event, maybe car accident, loss of loved ones, after breakup from a long relationship, or perhaps even a pandemic of a deadly virus. The majority are changed for good, some things happen and we suddenly realize that we need to appreciate life more. Isn’t it incredible to be granted the gift of living on this rock we call Earth? Wouldn’t it be a shame to waste it on stupid stuff?
Late last year I got the opportunity to volunteer on the European Solidarity Corps project. Time will tell but I’m certain that that was one of those life-changing moments. If I said no then I would probably never get the same chance again. I would never have the opportunity to meet people I know today and I would be robbed of so many good memories. Just like Lock’s life changed when he crashed on that island, my life changed when I decided to accept the offer for Slovenia.
Lost is a great TV show, I enjoyed watching it for the past three weeks. It felt like and reunion with an old friend that you didn’t see for ten years. I learned a lot of stuff as the show is mainly driven by character-based stories. All of the protagonists become better people at the end. It was all about friendship. It is a journey that matters not the destination, wise people would say and I couldn’t agree more.
If you haven’t had the luck to see this fantastic TV show, I highly recommend it. It is six seasons of great fun and profound revelations.
Thank you, Mirsad Mešić
