Are you ready to take the challenge?

What is your first thought when you think about Trbovlje? Your home or friends? For some people it is something different, it is a challenge. They are fearless and would do anything to feel the thrill.

I bet that by now you all know what I am talking about. Of course I’m talking about the tallest flue-gas stack type of chimney in Europe. It is 362 meters high and is made out of 12,000 cubic meters of concrete and 1,000 tons of steel. It was built so high in order to prevent air pollution from entering the valley where Trbovlje is located.

The chimney was designed by a german company Karrena from Düsseldorf and built with the help of Slovenian and Bosnian construction experts and especially qualified workers. It was designed in such a way that it can withstand a grade 10 earthquake on the Mercalli scale. At the top, when the wind is really strong, the chimney can sway by almost one meter.

The chimney is now closed down and it is only used by climbing extremists. Most of them wear special grip gloves but there are always exceptions.

Now I want to present you two darevils who have climbed on the top of the chimney.

Flaviu Cernescu – a romanian roof topper and occasional juggling daredevil on a unicycle

This guy made a video that shocked everybody. Cernescu and his partner filmed their ascent up the chimney and their aim was to get to the top before the sunset. They descended from the chimney in the dark, without any safety equipment. In the video the walk at the top might have your stomach churning even before you see him walking on the rim of the chimney juggling!

Domink has done something even more breathtaking. After climbing the chimney he performed a figure called a human flag.

The human flag is a feat of strength where the body is parallel to the ground supported by a vertical bar. A straight line is formed using the arms and body. The trick requires the performer to have extensive upper body strength. Yes, it’s that simple.

The conclusion is, you are capable of doing anything you want. The only thing you need is preparation and a little bit of hard work. That means you don’t start climbing on the tallest chimney with no experience and prior knowledge. You have to achieve your goals step by step and once you reach your goal you set for yourself another achievable.

Whenever you do something dangerous while seeking thrills, please promise me something: Be careful!
